1. Specify the Scope of the Project
A good start can contribute to a better end. The key here is to clearly define the parameters of your project –the things you’re supposed to accomplish, your timetable, the objective of the project, all should be documented and listed in details. Even those that should be excluded from your list should also be specified.
2. Allocate Resources
Determine available resources for your project. As the project manager, you will have to manage project resources. Do this by understanding each type of resource, when to use them. Resources include money, people, materials, technology and space. Proper allocation is achieved when each resource is used to its maximum potential which spawns positive results.
3. Observing A Timeline
The first thing you have to do before you start your project is create a timeline. The timeline will sort all your activities and set specific dates when every activity should be accomplished. Preparing a project calendar can help you track your team’s performance and meet goals by the end of each deadline. This way, you can also maintain your budget and resources without having to adjust them.
4. Meet your Team
Frequent meetings with the people you work with not only increases bond among team members, but also encourages a good working relationship with them. Always keep the communication lines open between you and the members of your team. Remember, you are not in this alone, you are a team.
5. Identify Milestones, Small Tasks
Unlike tasks, milestones are major tasks in the project. These are make or break activities towards the completion of your project. Highlight them in your timeline and make sure enough resources are designated in completing these milestones. Work with the best people in your team, you know can deliver the job well. Do this as well even with small tasks because these are harder to remember. Document all things you did as much as possible.
