Project Management Fundamentals

Course Description

This 2-day course introduces the student to the basic concepts of project management (PMBOK based). It provides the theory and the core methodology one will need to manage projects or participate on project teams. Lecture and discussion are reinforced with team and individual exercises, and case study assignments.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the phases of a project

  • Understand the different nine (9) knowledge areas of project management based on PMBOK

  • Develop a project plan.

  • Recognize the need to validate requirements

  • Understand change management

  • Develop a simple Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and schedule

  • Describe the fundamentals of risk management, including mitigation strategies

  • Understand estimating concepts

  • Describe the networks and specific scheduling considerations

  • Understand how to control a project

  • Describe effective closeout procedures
